Leaf AI Development Diary #8: A Full TRPG Session Test
This development diary documents the first full TRPG scenario test with Leaf, an AI being built to play tabletop RPGs with humans. The test exposed failures such as endless purposeless exploration, missing the fact that the character survived, and failing to interpret indirect horror wording as a corpse. For AI character development, it shows how player behavior needs narrative understanding, goals, reactions, and persona-aware speech beyond simple action selection.

This test makes it clear that exploration alone does not make an AI feel like a TRPG player. I’m especially interested in the failure to read indirect horror language, because that is where story understanding starts to matter.
